Funky Mama animated video coming soon!

Hi all! This is a hoot. The artist, Rod Cockle, who did the illustrations for my Grandma's House book is working on an animated video to my new song, "Freeze Dance."
Here's a still from his rough drawings: (I love looking like a Disney character!)

DAYS 3 and 4 RECORDING...

Whew!! This is a marathon!!
On Monday, banjo player Michael Foiles and harmonica player Tulsa Read came in to record some very cool parts on various tunes.
I recorded with the engineer/bass dude, Mark, all evening Monday and Tuesday, and we are all done with the exception of one zydeco accordion player, Ernest James. He comes in to play on "Potty Train" tonight. We've got 4 songs completely mixed and only 13 to go! I'll be in the studio for the next 3 nights and Friday morning (hopefully) I'll have Moo Juice in my hot little hands.
I'm planning on posting some samples when they're mixed and ready to rock.

DAY 2 RECORDING...

It's all going so smoothly! (Knock on wood, please.)
We had 6 hours in the studio. The Athons--Joe, Melissa, Ted and Ella--made a brief, but great appearance. Joe plays a mean sax and Melissa did the flute honors so well. Both are TRUE musicians and friends, so thanks guys. Ted even pitched in on Pop N' Hop.
My family came in, too, to help with Pop N' Hop and Down, Down Baby. My niece loved it and my poor nephew (who we later found out had a fever!) was a trooper. Even my sweet baby boy did great (with the help of Daddy and a nap).
Back at it tonight for some piano parts and background vocals.
Here's the song list:
  1. Moo Juice
  2. Sippy
  3. Pop n’ Hop
  4. Potty Train
  5. Freeze Dance
  6. Down, Down, Baby*
  7. Ooo, Ahh, Oww!
  8. The Grandparent Song
  9. My Dad Rocks
  10. No Sleep Tonight
  11. Let’s Drive
  12. Hot Time In the Old Town*
  13. Multi-Taskin’ Mama
  14. Stuck Inside
  15. Can You Hear Me?/1-2
  16. Sambalele*
  17. Hush Baby, Hush Child

FIRST DAY IN THE STUDIO...

Well, my drummer Billy is amazing. He got me through 12 songs yesterday in a 7-hour marathon session at the GORGEOUS Markosa Studios. I mean really gorgeous! Mark Thies is a great engineer and bass dude.
My brother, Sean, was able to even cut one song last night and he comes in again today to play piano on several other tracks.
Enjoy the pics!

We start again today and go until next Thursday. It sounds great!

MOO JUICE RECORDING BEGINS!

Ok, the time is finally here for MOO JUICE!
I start recording the new CD tomorrow and can't wait. I've got some wonderful musicians working out of Markosa studios with Mark Thies producing. (Mark will also be playing bass for me. You may have seen him as part of the Hiccups--Jim Cosgrove's band.) I'll be in the studio for the next couple of weeks.
I'll be posting some new pics of the process soon.
Here's our musician list:
Funky Mama
Billy Brimblecom-Drums
Sean Tatschl-Piano
Joe Athon-Sax
Melissa Athon-Flute
Michael Foiles-Banjo
Tulsa Read-Harmonica
Ernest James- Zydeco Accordion
Mark Thies-Bass
Various family members forced to participate, too. :)
Also, we have OVER 200 reserved already for the CD release party in July! There's always room for more (at least, up until 300 folks).
